Objectives

  1. The Society will finance and coordinate a Nansen Fellowship Program within global environmental and climate problems, including their impacts on society, that will be used for education and research for young people from many countries and cultures to create long term international relations and a better world
  2. The Society will initiate, finance and coordinate new research ideas and research projects within global environmental and climate problems, including their impacts on society, for the Nansen Center in Bergen, including G.C. Rieber Climate Institute, Mohn-Sverdrup Center for Ocean Studies, Nansen Center in St.Petersburg, Nansen-Zhu Center in Beijing and Nansen Center in Cochin, India – with the aim of creating continuity and quality throughout the Nansen Group
  3. The Society will initiate Nansen Centers in other parts of the world where a need is identified, specially in developing countries with significant environmental and climate problems, including their impacts on society, and contribute to finance these initiatives in cooperation with the Nansen Group and other scientific and finance partners
  4. The Society will regularly arrange international scientific meetings and conferences of high quality, focused on global environmental and climate issues, including their impacts on society, in cooperation with the Nansen Group and others
  5. The Society shall organize, finance and coordinate summer and winter schools within global environmental and climate topics, including their impacts on society, for students and young scientists in cooperation with the Nansen Group and other scientific and financial partners
  6. The Society will initiate, finance and coordinate global expeditions to increase the understanding of environmental and climate processes in cooperation with the Nansen Group and others
  7. The Society shall publish the scientific results from its activities in cooperation with the Nansen Group in quality journals and books, in addition to popularizing these results in relevant publications and media
  8. The Society shall do significant outreach activities with focus on environmental and climate problems, including their impacts on society for children, young people, students, grown-ups and decision-makers on all level – including politicians, with the aim to increase the understanding of the environmental and climate situations in the world and influence how this can be improved
